About the FoodThe main difference between The Chimes Restaurant menu and the Varsity Theatre’s Catering menu is that the Chimes menu is a short order menu. You come in, you choose, we cook it, serve it, and you eat it right away. We have developed a separate menu for private events that can be served buffet style. These are items that have staying power so guests can visit the buffet whenever they want during the party. A typical party of forty would select four to six items depending on how heavy they want to be on food. A rehearsal cocktail would call for more food than a happy hour style event. Once we know what you think looks interesting, we will help dial in the right amount for your function. We like to have the menu set one week prior to your event to allow for special items and special treatments, such as marinades.

The Varsity Theatre does not require that you use our catering for your event. However, if you choose an outside caterer, that caterer must be wholly self-sufficient. We do not have and The Chimes will not provide any material or storage and preparation space for catered events to outside caterers. If you would rather have your food catered by another group, we welcome outside catering. See to it your outside caterer contacts us to coordinate for access to the venue.
